Soo - I don't know where to start with posting my university makings, but here we go...
This is my very very favorite thing I made in my first year (April 2012):
That semester, the drawing class I made this in was challenging (skill-wise - it's been years since I've drawn with just pencil!) but I found the assignments kind of underwhelming...until the last project: we could do whatever we wanted! Bring on the watercolours! Bring on acrylic paint! Bring on big paper! Bring on some sewing!
I'd had this idea in my head for a long long time, and I finally got to try it out and experiment with a kind of illustrative style I thought might be fun (watercolours + painted outlines + general crazyness). I also got to play with swirly, unreadable text a little, so that was awesome.
A few of the little details:
It ended up being the brightest thing at our class critique in the room. lol.
(I was slightly embarrassed, but also a bit proud that colors don't scare me.)
I hand-painted every.last.detail. It took forever, but was a labour of love. There's some sewing on there, too! See it? At the top of the ship? And trying to control watercolour is not possible. And if you know me in real life, you've probably seen me draw this octopus 1 million times.
Also, I had to scan it in 50 pieces to put together this picture of it. :)
And - I can't wait to play with illustration more!
PS - notice the missing boob? I get hassled for that. I accidentally painted it out.
