A new space is the perfect time for a new little intro, yeah?
Inspired by Miss Kara.
What am I up to, everyday?
Right now, I'm in the middle of a self-inflicted crazy life: for the last 5 years I've worked in a local animation studio, doing animation/revisions/posing - but mostly I'm an an After Effects artist on kids' cartoons. I moved here to Vancouver from Calgary in 2006 to go to Classical Animation school for a year, and stayed here for the industry (and the ocean!). I love working in a studio very much, but I found myself doing graphic design for fun in my spare time (alongside all the crafty stuff I was blogging about), so I decided to go to university in the fall of 2011. It's a 4 year program, and for the last year and a half I've been working full-time + my class load (to avoid getting school loans and save up some money for the next few years) - insert crazy look at me, here. lol. It's a bit nuts, but it's temporary. :)
What about your personal life?
I'm married to my mister, Tzanko, who's from Bulgaria and works in the same animation studio as me (we met at film school almost 6 years ago, this month!). Right now, we live in an-oddly bright basement suite - but we're both dying to work for ourselves and live on a quiet island in an old house, one day soon. Puppies and gardens and more than 600 square feet!
What do you like to do for fun?
I'm kind of craft-obsessed. I haven't had much time to do any crafty things this year, but I like handmaking anything & everything - drawing, sewing, crocheting, learning how to knit, playing with paper. All of it! I want to try some vintage paint-by-numbers and crewel, this year, if I can.
When I'm not making stuff, the mister and I travel a lot - mostly around here, visiting little Pacific islands and setting up our tent wherever we have a break from work/long weekend. We don't have a car, so we used to walk/hike to our camp adventures, but we did motorcycle camp for a little bit (that all ended in a bit of a tumbl & a hospital stay, for me, so I'm more into the hike-camping, now). Did you know you can camp in Hawaii? Our two-week camp in Maui a few years ago was the best. We were lucky enough to visit Italy & Bulgaria this past Spring, too. We both have major wanderlust!
This wanderlust has also heightened my addiction to photography. Somewhere over the past few years I've managed to (cheaply) gather 6 or so cameras, and have been obsessively playing and learning all about film for the last year - something I love doing but still have a lot to learn!
Whatcha gonna do with your life?
Travel lots more, smile everyday. Take a ton of pictures! Now that I have classes focused on my major - Communication Design - I'm feeling crazy inspried to make, do, draw, and build a body of design work that's me. So inspired! I hope to one day work for myself: drawing patterns for fabric & paper, working on blog and web designs for people & places I connect with, and loving what I do everyday. I'm so excited to incorporate all these handmade things I do into my work, too...
What about you?
I like to visit everyone who stops by, so please introduce yourself!
PS: I'm obsessed with Goodknits "B&W Haze" photo action.
