Make Like A Quilt...

And sew!
This little sewing-inspired page is up on the Sassafras blog today.

Quilts are what I had in mind when I started this scrapbook page - I've been finishing up my vintage linen quilt and was feeling really inspired by the mismatched but magically in-harmony squares of it - and I always crave a little sewing on my pages (okay, I haven't made a page without it in a while), so I wanted to try my own paper version of patchwork on a page about my garden.

The photos are from before said garden was fried by the too-hot sun that shines in our window all day. lol. I tried to revive most of it, but it looks pretty doomed...

It may look like it took a long time to sew this together, but it was actually super-quick to make using the 'Starters' and 'Sunshine Broadcast' scraps I had on my desk. :) And I'm obsessed with leaving loose threads, as of late!

Little Life Bits.

Oh my word - there just hasn't been that much time to set up blog posts ahead of time, lately! My days are just running into one another, here, and I'm scrambling to keep up! I feel like this summer's been like that, all around, though, for everybody.

The sun was shining here all weekend, and I was still recooperating from the cold I was fighting off last week, so we mostly hung around home and Saturday was one big nap on the beach (with our pillows in tow). I also finally got a (pink) controller & 'Little Big Planet' for our new (old) PS3 - yay! - so I got time-sucked into that for a while, too. lol.

Yesterday we hopped on the motorcycle and took a little day trip to Deep Cove - we'll be kayak camping from there next weekend, so we wanted to check it out and it's a quick ride away. Plus, it was sunny, so there was more lounging on the sand. It's harder with pants, boots, and jackets in tow (and so hot!), but it was relaxing.

The next few weeks of plans and to-do's are whirling around in my head - we found an apartment and will be moving throughout the month, hopefully - if all goes well, our places will overlap for half the month, which is waaay less stressful than moving and cleaning all in one day.

And then we have the kayak camping plans, and we're wondering where to go camping for the upcoming long weekend, too. School starts for me in two weeks and I feel so not prepared - I have no supplies or anything, yet! We're also trying to figure out when to have a garage sale and book movers and all that jazz right now, as well as juggling the last two weeks of production-schedule-driven work during the day and freelance stuff at night. lol.

Crazy? A little. But it's an exciting kind of crazy, as always.

I'm hoping I can get through some vacation photos to post up this week during visits with family in town tonight, a hopefuly trip to the PNE (the local amusement park), and packing for the kayak trip - I have so many to share!

A Moment of Quiet.

Oh my goodness - thanks for your overwhelmingly sweet words a la American Crafts! You guys are the sweetest, and I'm still pinching myself!

I made a little hand-stitching inspired page for Scrapbook News & Review.
I had a featured artist spot over there, the other day.

I wrote a little article there alongside this page on easy ways you can incorporate sewing on your pages - with little tips on how to make an embroidered title, and ledger journalling lines with floss & thread.

This kind of feels like my happy place, right now.
I'm realizing that my 'happy place' usually involves rainbow colors. lol.

Sassafras: CHA Color Challenge

I took a second look at Anthropologie and Ruche's lookbooks last week to get inspired for summer again, and it struck me just how well these beautiful photos, sets, and outfits opitimize summer. The colors, the design - it's all there, already coordinated for you - you can simply pull a few colors from the photos that call out to you, note the lines to use in your design, and you have an instant scrapbook page idea when you're starving for ideas! So, that's what I did:

I was mostly inspired by the lovely muted-but-bright pops of color and the vintage feel of the photos, and my idea went really well with this summer photo I took last year and some Sunshine Broadcast (which was perfect!).



I mixed some American Crafts and Cosmo Cricket, in there, too - and that green paper is my new favorite textured cardstock that I got at Michaels - love it!
