The yellow curtains.

Our little kitchen window finally got some curtains a few weekends ago!

I found a lovely lace-lined vintage tablecloth a while back at a teeny thrift shop and had it saved just for this very spot - and I finally had a moment to cut it in half, and stitched it into some quick pretty yellow curtains for our kitchen:

I snuck them up while the mister was out tinkering with his motorcycle or something, and I feared he'd be like - eew, this is way too bright and girly for me! But, alas...he's used to me by now. lol. He actually grabbed that yellow crochet tie I had stashed in a bin next to them and tied up the left side. For reals.

They're far from perfect and they hang a little crooked because of that silly ceiling thing (can you tell how short our ceilings are, too?), and I didn't even notice that one of them is backwards until Tzanko pointed it out...lol...but I love em. I also love those flowers 9which sadly finally died this week), and the little giraffe that lives on that window sill.

I guess they're there to stay!
At least while the lovely summer light is pouring through... :)

Bits by the open door.

Ah...just got back from a weekend of camping! We got rained out, and our not-so-fond-of-the-rain friends left us a day in (I guess we're hardcore? he he), but it was still full of warm campfire, the best hazelnut smores ever and naps in the warmest, cuddliest well-loved tent! It's always fun to load it all on the motorcycle and relax out there when it's warm - even if it's rainy. Aaah.

I feel like I spent so much time around the house the last few weeks in my spare moments that I did miss it around here this weekend! Our sort of sunny-for-a-basement-suite suite opens right out onto the backyard, so when it's nice out we just leave the door open and it fills the kitchen up with light. So lovely!

Last weekend it was nice to enjoy that light streaming in - I just puttered around, hung some new curtains, tidied the place up, planted my (very late!) garden with the mister, and filled all my thrifted pots with seeds.

Hello, Board.

Ahhh...I've had a few moments at home this week, with some sun shining through the basement windows (sooo happy our basement has lotsa light!), so I hastily snapped some shots of my favorite spot in my 'studio': the inspiration board.

Aka, the place I stick every odd little thing I love to bits:

We opted not to paint any walls bright colors in here (yet) since moving in the fall, because I tend to get sick of things like that quickly...so I bring all the color I want into my space via everything else. lol. My space still is a bit disorganized and usually full of temporary things - like the pile of mixed  cd's burnt in highschool waiting to be uploaded into itunes since the move (gasp - did I just age myself?), the Aldo box waiting to be returned (who accidentally ordered size 5 shoes? me), the free beige chair waiting for a paint job (teal!), and the typewriter waiting to have it's ink put in still. :)

There are some school projects scattered in there, too...

The board ended up collecting a lot of knitted things and found vintage needlepoints, notes from the mister, and one of those cool moustache-and-nose disguises that now keeps showing up in my drawings...he he.

Things are always bright, shifting, and at various degress of 'done', here...and it makes for an inspiring (albeit squishy place) when I have to stay up til 2 working on homework I don't necessarily love...lol.

I love that the time change means the sun is out when I leave school at almost 7, now...yay! Spring is almost here, I'm getting impatient!! :)

Revived.

Yay! I'm happy to say, my basil is sprouting & growing like crazy!

You may remember me mentioning that my window-sill garden got a little fried in our hot sun last month (you can still see the last two dry-as-hay herbs behind the basil, above). lol. I was so sad! No joke. And then the flowers were done blooming. The sunflower died. Some herbs were sacrificed to the sun gods. It looked sad for a few weeks until I finally replanted things and trimmed and watered and rearranged.

The basil (which I had thought to be oregano, at first) managed to survive all along. I planted a few more seeds at the bottom after some of the underneath leaves died and they sprouted up again right away!

Now I'm careful to remember to water everyday and close the blinds a bit so they're not frying all day when it's super hot! Still working on my green thumb. :)

How's your garden doing?

I hope it survives our weekend of kayak-camping without water! lol.

This Week...

What part of my desk usually looks like when I'm scrapbooking.

Has not been as crafty as I like, so far.

I went to go for a bike ride I was so looking forward to and found a flat tire.
I've been fighting off a cold mister husband had last week & it's on it's way out.
I'm pretending I don't want the new apartment we have in mind, so we get it.

It looks like we may be moving on October 1s t -lots of time!

I'm thinking about our booth design for the One of A Kind Show.
Freaking out about all the things I need to make before this big show.

I'm wondering what kind of school supplies I need to get.
I'm really really wanting a PS3 controller of my own.

I have 14 scenes to finish at work by Friday.
My reward is thrift shopping - it's been so long!

I'm remembering that Minigo is my favorite yogurt. Really.
If I have to eat more ginger or soup, I may go crazy.

I really want to finish crocheting all my granny squares - 180 of em!

Feeling nostalgic - we gave our notice to move out of this apartment and it's bittersweet - we love it here. Happy to have one more month than we thought walking the beaches, taking as many pictures as we can, enjoying the hood.

I need to finish altering that pile of clothes that's on my desk.

This is the near-chaos of my desk area, right now (minus the coffee, which has long since been gone). lol. It feels a little crazy when I'm working on it, but I always find it really pretty and inspiring laying in wait like this, too.
