Hi, friends! Back from a fun long weekend of camping, walking through tunnels, and hanging out/catching up with family. Aaah. We topped it all off with a sunny motorcycle home, a nap in the sun after getting home early, and - hopefully - a movie rented and playing, soon. Photos coming soon!
I just wanted to pop in after a quiet weekend around these parts with a heads up that I've been interrogated by Janee at Yellow Bird, Yellow Beard.
Pop on over to see my answers crafty, bloggy & Etsy questions. And did I mention you can win a lil Sticky Notepad, there?
I got hooked on podcasts the other day, at work - I've discovered they're nice thing to listen to while I'm plugging away on cartoons - lol. I was perusing Etsy's podcast archives, and I don't know how I missed this the first time around - but I fell in love with the calm thoughtfulness of Yokoo's Handmade Portrait:
She really got me thinking. Her style is so distinct - even her voice is so unique.
And the video is so gorgeous, I watched it a bunch of times in a row. he he.
Favorite make-me-think points:
'I grew up poor, but only because everyone else had money.'
'Work to me isn't hard, it's not tried - it's who I am. I think what's hard is going against a current, trying to be something else.'
' I just feel like there's no room to be mediocre. And it's not because I have some kind of, like, disorder. It's simply because I enjoy immensely being great.'
'When you create art from the need to be loved, you do your best'.
Do you agree with her thoughts on making? Disagree?
I love this - the silence, that we're put here to create. All those things I believe in quietly, said out loud.
I had my lil Mr. Moustache cup cozies for sale at the craft show over the weekend - nestled all snug and happy on a little sample paper cup, piled with their lovely plaids peeking out. :) Everybody loves em (me included!):
They were so fun to sew! I thought you might want to see a peek at the finished guys - a little bit of my booth, for now. I always take a billion photos of my booth at shows, but the booth has looked pretty similar for the whole Spring show season, so I'm not sure if I'll post more photos of it or not...lol.
I'm definitely craving a new sewing project, now that these guys are done!
Anyhoo - hope you're having a lovely Tuesday! I've had a tough time getting back into it this week, but I'm chugging away. :)
Dude! I have to say a huge thanks-so-much for the sweet words on my last few posts, guys! I'm so happy you like Mr. Moustache & my granny blanket - it was super-fun to come home from camping to your sweet words. :)
I had a few questions about where I got my fabric labels...
I got them from KikiCreations (she sells on both Etsy & Ebay).
I'd heard good things about her labels & needed some in a hurry (we're talking a less-than-30-day turnaround - which she happily met for me). I had my design ready, e-mailed it over, she made a proof for me to approve, and voila! Labels.
Also - camping this past weekend was lovely! I didn't take a single picture and I drank way too many pear coolers. lol. It was a little bit chilly, still - it's been rainy here and is still early in the season, but the company was rad & the sites were cool! Lotsa fun. We drove up Friday afternoon, slept in Saturday, and it was gloomy and cold, so we hung out by the fire the whole day.
When we got home from camping - let's just say that a few days of drinking more than we should caught up with us, and both mister husband and I napped for a long while. I did manage to finish crocheting about 60 more squares before I ran out of yarn, though! Monday was a holiday, and there were grand plans to start working on things, but after a sunny bike ride, some camp-gear-putting-away, cleaning, and groceries - that was enough work for one day. lol. We hunkered down on the couch and watched 'Long Way Round' - and today I'm getting back into the swing of things. :)
A few weeks back, I made some little Mr. Moustache coffee cup cozies/warmers for a local craft show I had coming up - they'd been in my sketch book for *so long* but it had taken me a while to perfect the pattern, so it was that much more exciting to see them all finished after the long wait!
They're still in progress in these photos - hence the pins.
They're made from the softest oatmeal flannel, with little appliqued faces and bright & colorful flannel plaid insides - I have a reusable travel mug, myself, but I was totally tempted to buy a paper cup just to use one - lol. I think I'll slip one in my purse for those few times when I'm out & about and have forgotten my mug - I''ll try not to do it on purpose! lol.
It feels good to have a cute lil useful guy that will save some of those paper cup warmers - I've been extra environmentally aware, lately - probably due to listening to more knowledge network at night while crocheting, and it feels good to make healthy choices with not only the groceries I buy, now, but the things I use everyday. Aaah. :)
I'll have these guys listed in the shop in June, after my next local show.
Oh - and I found out this week that Bubbly Shnooks got into The One of A Kind Show! It was a *big* goal this year - I'm super-excited to start prepping for it!!
