My work: Animation, Bubbly Shnooks Shop, Design, Scrapbook
Hello! I'm Michelle Alynn Clement - a 27 year old girl living in Vancouver, BC, Canada on a tree-filled suburban street. I work in the local animation industry here in town, and am currently attending Art & Design University. Occasionally I make handmade goodies for my little indie shop, Bubbly Shnooks , partake in local craft shows, and freelance design.
This used to be a very crafty, oft-updated blog, but full-time work and full-time school mean there's currently a bit of a lull here, at times: despite the busyness, I love to update with what I'm working on (both school and hobby-wise) and what inspires me, which I hope - in turn - both inspire you.
I appear to be a quiet being in person, but once you get to know me I yap and get silly. :) I'm a homebody of sorts, a workaholic, & I love anything odd & quirky - I have a weak spot for tattoos, sweet (acoustic) singer-songwriters, warm latte's, vintage clothes & decor, hand-printed graphic tees, tights, bright colors, yarn, granny blankets, vintage doilies & old photo albums, cake, ballet flats, and - last but not least - anything octopus/nautical/pirate-themed.
My favorite cartoon is Spongebob. My favorite book is 'The Time Traveller's Wife', and my favorite movie is 'The Science of Sleep'. I grew up listening to a lot of '80's rock and still love the cheese of it - Def Leppard & Ac/Dc top the list. I love to discover new indie tunes, and am also obsessed with all things vampire - Sookie books, True Blood, 'Interview With a Vampire', etc.
I always have a lot of crafty projects on the go - everything from sewing, crocheting, scrapbooking, drawing, embroidery - if it involves scissors, I'm probably in love with it. :) I have a constant stream of ideas popping into my head day in, day out - so I'm addicted to lists & journals, too - and am just learning how to better weild my Olympus E-520 DSLR camera (among other smaller film/toy cameras). Alongside animation, design is a passion of mine - especially old school handmade graphics and lovely old techniques like book-binding, printmaking & letterpress.
I grew up in a beach town in interior BC called Penticton - seriously, the best spot in the summer, still - and this about sums that up:
Yep. That's me - I had a perpetual tan & sun-blonde hair as a little one. When I was 12, I moved away from the beach to Calgary (against my will! lol) - which may well be the coldest city in Canada. After 8 years of snow, I moved to Vancouver to go to film school, where I studied Classical Animation for a year.
I've been married to my Bulgarian hubby, Tzanko - whom I met at said film school - for 4-and-some years, now. We love to camp and explore our wild & lovely province - either hiking to our destinations or braving trips on the motorcycle to hang our hammocks up overlooking the Pacific ocean for the night. We're also movie crazy, and watch a lot of animation - both movies & cartoons. It's really really cool to 'get' eachother's jobs!
I have a lot of hopes & dreams, some of them being to one day live in a really old beautiful house by the water (perhaps one we've built), make my living working at home with my hubby on the things I love, and to have a little boston terrior or pug running around at my feet. Most of all - I want to follow my heart, make people smile with cute things, and craft until my hands are tired. :)
And, of course, I'll share it all here on Scissor Quirk with you!
Thanks so much for peeking in and learning a little more about me. :)
Say hi on twitter, peek at my Flickr stream & ask me questions, too!
