Today I'm writing an essay on women's glasses - yes, glasses. I can choose any designed object and write about the social context and design intentions of it, and glasses are something cool & interesting I can relate to, having had them since junior high (and having needed them for much, much previous to that).
In my research I came across these videos full of cah-razy glasses from the 1950's! I've never seen anything like em:
These two are pretty funny, too.
I was crazy averted to getting glasses, and never wore them until I had to in class, even then - to read the board and see the bus number. lol. Really. I remember me and this other bespectacled girl in my class being psyched that we could wear glasses instead of the much-less-cool science lab goggles, though. The one moment in my junior high career I was proud to have glasses!
Since then, I've grown fond of them - but they still bug me to wear on an everyday basis, because I'm used to wearing contacts, now (I feel like I have super-blurry peripheral vision, or something that weirds me out). I did just order some new frames, though, and I'm psyched to try them on once they arrive - I've been craving a new vintage-inspired pair.
Which ones are your favorite?
I read a comment on the video that said the bamboo ones reminded someone of Spongebob, so that's all I could think about when I saw those ones...lol.
