I would tell you:
It snowed here yesterday! Thanks, slippery boots.
You also failed the water-leak test.
Speaking of, I accidentally ordered the default size for a pair of boots I'd been stalking in a two-day sale...my size 10 (only at Aldo, folks...otherwise I'm an 8.5) feet were saddened when compared to the size 5's that arrived. *sniff*
This all-consuming essay I've been scrambling to get a draft done of is all about how the media has caused us to be secretless, naked. Really. (Got to pick my own topic, yo!) I keep seeing it everywhere and it's all-consuming, now: body image, fashion, the 'invisible' things we do to hide ourselves, daily. Love writing so much.
We were talking about identity and how it's tied to material objects this morning in class, and it arose that people usually either prefer to be defined by what they create or what they look like...it really got my wheels turning. This idea of stuff...everywhere. Defining us. It made me think vaguely of fashion bloggers, and that they're usually creating and wearing...in a good way. :)
I have so many questions for fashion bloggers, actually...especially the reeeally crazy outfits (which I usually love the mostest) but tend to think 'did you just wear that outside for a walk and change into your jammies when you got home?'...lol. Silly? That's totally what I would do.
We got into how we decide the 'value' of goods, and that we usually have no idea how much work goes into something. It made me think about how hard it is sometimes to convince clients how much work animation is...or how many hours it takes. Or when you make a handmade scarf and have to explain to the lady that usually shops at Walmart that your time is worth money...
I'm kind of disgusted about the whole Apple/Foxconn factory thing - that Apple products are almost entirely 'handmade', meaning that the same person does the same thing by hand every day, day after day. Cities full of people do this monotonous work...wondering what else I own is 'handmade'.
I'm on a make-my-own latte kick at home, but my homemade chai is getting overused. I got a recipe for cold coffee concentrate to make (in lieu of espresso), figured out how to foam my own milk, and am going to make a ginger concentrate this weekend. Yay!
Annnnd that's a whole lotta random!
What's on your mind?
Today I'm lifedrawing & 2d class mid-terming, madly going over my English paper draft that's due, trying to chill a bit at lunch after I do that, and then sitting through the worst-timed English class ever - 4-7 pm. You know, those hours when your brain already after class all day just can't take in any more information...lol. Oh, and happy March!
