I got hooked on podcasts the other day, at work - I've discovered they're nice thing to listen to while I'm plugging away on cartoons - lol. I was perusing Etsy's podcast archives, and I don't know how I missed this the first time around - but I fell in love with the calm thoughtfulness of Yokoo's Handmade Portrait:
She really got me thinking.
Her style is so distinct - even her voice is so unique.
And the video is so gorgeous, I watched it a bunch of times in a row. he he.
Favorite make-me-think points:
'I grew up poor, but only because everyone else had money.'
'Work to me isn't hard, it's not tried - it's who I am. I think what's hard is going against a current, trying to be something else.'
' I just feel like there's no room to be mediocre. And it's not because I have some kind of, like, disorder. It's simply because I enjoy immensely being great.'
'When you create art from the need to be loved, you do your best'.
Do you agree with her thoughts on making? Disagree?
I love this - the silence, that we're put here to create.
All those things I believe in quietly, said out loud.
She's kind of my hero, now.
