I feel like it's been a while since I've shown something crafty I'm working on right now, here - mostly because I've been drawing design goodness at night in the last few weeks, which does not a photo-friendly scenario make. lol.
Also, with the days getting shorter (and darker!) the whole photographing in our not-so-bright-sometimes first floor apartment after-work situation is getting dire. I did manage to snap some pictures of le messy desk this weekend, though.
The top of my desk, in all it's organized but chaotic glory:
It is kind of a colorful mish-mash, right now, covered in crafty supplies & projects that I only got half unpacked from the Dottie Angel workshop & a big board of to-do post-its so I feel somewhat organized in my freelance work...lol.
On my desk right now in the not-drawing department, I started a simple patchwork-of-sorts crochet blanket for a little special nephew-to-be who's due this December (I'm oh so proud that I started this early - pat on the back, self). The yarn I picked is my favorite color combo right now (hah - that would also be the same as Mix & Mend, now that I'm seeing it like this), and I'm doing my living room in the same palette (slooooowly but surely).
Actually, I wasn't sure if I was going to keep this blankie for my home or not, at first - lol. I originally didn't intend for it to be a baby blankie when I bought the yarn - but the patches are looking so tiny & cute and the colors are all boy, so it'll be a perfect little soft gift, I think. :)
And, yes, the yarn is in a shoebox. Only because all of my cute yarn-project-in-progress bins are being used up & I have yet to finish one of them - though I'm close. I've resorted to Studio Calico boxes for the larger ones, and this shoebox for the little one. lol.
Also piled nicely on the desk, waiting to be photographed:
That would be the pile of loveliness I made, Dottie Angel style. :) Eeek - I can't wait to share these! I was hoping to put my apron on and hop outside with the garland and slip and get some closer photos of the projects this weekend, but I hear it's going to be the first rainy windy stormy weather we've had in a long while...lol. We'll see! Fingers crossed. It's blasphemy to keep them folded on the desk like this out of view for much longer in my home, I think!!
Until then, it sits there in a pretty pile of vintage fabric goodness, waiting to be hung up in the bedroom redecorate soon or to finish being sewn (I have a wall hanging inspired by miss Tif's lovely pieced piece to finish sewing, still).
Oh, and what's that sitting on top, you may be wondering?
That would be the lil nametag I made for the workshop - we all made our own, which was such a cute idea - the night before we began sewing like mad. :)
I made it hurriedly after a long day of travel & dinner & meeting in the bed & breakfast I stayed at, inadvertently (goodness) keeping my roomie up to make hers, too, with the snip of my scissors. This was the first time I freehand crocheted anything or embroidered my handwriting in a looong while.
It turned out pretty cute for the hurry, I think. :) I just love the vintage yellow bingo-chip esque button, and that little girl pin is my very favorite ever!!
She's The Small Object's creation, and when I spied her at Paper Ya I immediately scooped her up and pinned her to my coat. She makes me smile like crazy, and so I dubbed her the happy-girl-pin. I like to think of her as a little self portrait - she even makes hubby giggle when he's grumpy, I think though mostly he's giggling at my absurd happiness over such a little pin. lol...
Until next time, friends - there's a new playlist of my current favorite tunes to listen to that I posted up yesterday & some October thoughts, too. I'll be back soon with some more posts - including candy sushi & workshop pictures, and hopefully a few late illustrations I've finished up (fingers crossed)!
Happy day!
