Last month, my studio/workspace was featured over on the Bella Blvd blog as part of my Guest Artista stint - which is rad, because I had to actually force myself to take photos of it. It's never clean clean, and not quite done/in the state of done-ness I'd like it to be in, decoration-wise - but it's a lovely, well-lit spot that gets the job done and is actually quite cute and colorful, I think. :)
So here she is, the window-full corner that I call my work space:
This space in my living room actually doubles (triples, quadruples?) as my "do-everything" space: all of my crafts and hobbies are done here, including sewing, designing, drawing and scrapbooking - though hubby might dispute this and say that all of these crafts actually take over the room and move along down to the floor and into the kitchen, which I can't deny).
It also doubles as my freelance and business workspace when I work from home in between animation contract jobs, too - not to mention it's in the corner of the living room aka where we hang out all the time - picture the tv a few feet from the right of the computer next to another shelf, and the couch across from that.
That said - having walls of windows might be cool for lighting, but it's bad for storage - which is super-scarce and always visible! And it's continually hard to keep it looking clean and not too cluttered, but still able to hold everything in this room that hubby and I use daily. I have a lot of craft supplies for such a small space/corner (our apartment is only about 600 sq. feet all together!)
Thank goodness my hubby is artistic too, so our whole place ends up looking like a studio most of the time! I have two large desks set up underneath a long window which makes for a really bright space to work in, and underneath each of those desks are stacked bins that roll out and store most of my paper and embellishments both horizontally & vertically, as well as my sewing supplies.
I keep my most-often used supplies and tools on top of these desks (like my sewing machine, adhesive, paint, etc), as well as projects-on-the-go or things I've just completed. The shelf above my desk holds smaller items like buttons, cards, and art supplies. Next to my computer desk & printer in the corner, I have an Ikea Expedit vertical shelf that holds all other things, like my yarn, books and magazines, shop packaging, printing paper, block printing, etc.
All the yummy little goodies like this:
Anyway, it never really looks this clean in general, so it's a good thing I've snapped these, now! lol. Most days, it looks more like this:
But that's how it should look, I think. :) Mess = Creativity.
Since these were taken, I actually found a wider desk for free to work on
(thank goodness!) so I have much, much more actual desk surface space & my supplies no longer cover the entire floor when things spread out a little. :) he he. My printer has it's own little home next to a smaller desk, and my yarn collection has grown drastically...lol. (Not sure how that happened...)
I have to say, despite being an organizational nightmare, at first, I really am fortunate to have a space like this, looking out over the garden out front by our quiet little street. :) It's so lovely to create goodies here!
Thanks for peeking! Now you know where the magic happens? lol...
If you have any questions about my space, too, please feel free to ask!
Also - I have to say - you may think crafting by South-Western facing windows is cool, until you do it one day in the hot hot summer and practically pass out and get sunburnt while indoors from the heat/sun. lol. Just sayin. :)
PS - Totally played hooky last night and ignored the to-do's to instead master this round granny square and start my first actual crocheted project. Yesss. Off to pop up book class (Eeek!) tonight, too. :) More, soon!
