la-la-long-weekend...

Yay! In a few hours we'll be on the bus & ferry, on the way to 3 nights of camping on one of the Southern Gulf islands (a wee 2 1/2 - 3 hours from our home in downtown Van). We're both so, so excited!! We've only gone for a night before, and it was a while ago, and now we have all the gear we need, and realized we're camping close to a farmer's market/beach/good hiking spot/museum, too. Eeeek!

This is a lil snapshot of me on our last trip to Galiano island (waiting for the ferry on the sandstone rocks...they about make up the 'beaches' here on our West Coast, but they always look really cool and prehistoric, almost, so ya get used to them) - it's very similar-looking to where we're going this weekend. :)

Okay, so I'm outties. I would say I'll share camping pictures right away, but I don't know how much of a chance I'll have to post next week (We only have 4 days in town before we go to Victoria/Tofino, and I need to finish my Etsy video amoung a billion other things before then!! Agh! lol...But, for now, relaxation.

Thursday, thursday.

Woot! Had such a fab night last night...It started with a studio baseball game - even though it's so friggin hot here right now (it gets to be about 33-35 degrees C, but it's so ucky and humid it feels like it's around 40 degrees. We're breaking records - it hasn't been this hot for so many days since the 1880's of something crazy like that!).

Anyway, it's so hot here that I couldn't imagine running, so Z played with the boys and I hung around and watched/played with a lil boxer puppy. Fun!

On the way home, we managed to catch the Festival of Lights fireworks here downtown. It's a fireworks competition we have every year down here - they stop car traffic downtown for a few hours and throngs of people head to the beach to watch. It's rad - people walking in the streets, hanging out on balconies or in front of buildings, cheering at fireworks. :) So the night ended with this:

But that seriously doesn't do it justice -  they were *so huge* and went on for a good half hour or so...I've never seen such giant cool fireworks ever!! So happy we got to see em, we miss the big finale on Saturday cuz we'll be out camping! :) Ticked it off of the list. Check!

Anyhoo - I spent all morning getting the last of the camping gear we need with Z...foam mats, another sleeping bag, teeny pillows...and nabbed some hiking sandals and a hat, too. Necessary, but so not me. I never wear hats. Or hiking sandals. lol...but needless to say, I'll need em.

Just got home and hopped in a freezing cold shower and am still boiling hot. I hope this heat wave passes, cuz the house feels like a sauna. Literally, you just drip sweat all day long here right now...ucky, ucky.

Have to go clean the house a bit, plan the groceries we need to get for the camping weekend, start packing my backpack, and somehow animated a little, do laundry, and drink a kabillion cups of water. lol..off I go! Hope you're all staying cool! :) More soon...

Cravings.

Things I am craving. Things I feel I need to see/hear/absorb to feed my creative soul right now. (Well, some of them I already obsessively indulge in already, and some of them are far off, but you know what I mean...I love them, in general.) Oh, media inspo.

Movies:

Alice in Wonderland (Have you seen the preview? Rad! Tim Burton is amazing...I know it's a wait for it to come out, but I'm dying to see this movie!! Specially cuz of these two guys...)

Where the Wild Things Are (Still sooo excited to see this! Spike Jonze rocks! I love the song and the handwritten-ness of the preview, too...(sigh). I swoon.)

500 Days of Summer (Indie rom-coms are usually lovely. And who doesn't love Zooey Daschanel? She's my favorite!! Plus, the soundtrack rocks!)

 
Two Lovers (I figure its crazy profound and good if he came out of retirement to do this movie...so it's a must-see for me.)

Sunshine Cleaning (I've been dying to see this for months!! I'm all about the odd/morbid/funny combination...excited!!)

Books:

The Sookie Stackhouse Series (Thanks in part to your lovely reviews!! :) Plus, I need a True Blood-like fix, since we're done watching the first season now. (sigh).)

Anne Rice (I just finished reading 'Interview with a Vampire', and it was lovelier than the movie, if that's possible. How did I miss Anne Rice while I was into vampires way back when? I guess I was too young for her, then...lol. Anyhoo, I need to read more of her vampires.)

Let the Right One In (My sister let me on to the fact that this is a book that the movie - which I loved!! - was based on. Oh, yummy. I need to read it. I just love it to bits and have a feeling that the book is better!)

Tunage:

Coeur des Pirate (I love, love her sound....but have no idea what she's saying. Even so, reminds me of Ingrid Michaelson/Feist, and she is so dang cute! Lovely!)

 

Bahamas (I have a major crush on his cover of "Whole Wide World" - it's so cute. I'm a sucker for boys singing sweet songs with acoustic guitars).

500 Days of Summer Soundtrack (It's lovely. It's kinda indie. No need to say more. I can't stop listening to Mumm-Ra's "She's Got You High"...)

She & Him (Again with the Zooey love.  Have to say, though, I didn't really mesh with them the first few listens, but I'm falling in love with the quirky sound that is She & Him, now.)

True Blood Soundtrack (Okay, so I bought it because I had "Bad Things" stuck in my head for days, and I love the twangy country/blues vibe. Feel like I could blast it in my cousins car on our way to Tofino...he he. I love "Play With Fire", especially.)

Umm, holy vampires, huh? lol. I'm a little obsessed. With all things vampire. I can't concentrate on twitter because the twilight/new moon tweeters I've followed are always distracting me with links of gossip and trailers and photos and news. lol...

Summer, summer.

Whew!

Umm..did I say I'd blog every day this week in that last post? Oh, goodness. It's only Tuesday - we'll say Monday was a write-off, otay?

Anyhoo - I've been busy busy trying to finish a lil 15 second animated video this week since I got home from Calgary...(believe it or not, it takes a long time to plan, design, build, animate, composite, and add sound on something that's only 15 seconds long...lol.) Hopefully I'll be done it by mid next week? Therefore, I've made nothing else I can share yet.

So for now, all I have from this weekend is a lil snapshot of how we spent most of the weekend in Calgary:

Floating in my parents' lovely pool! It was a great couple of days -  we flew into town on Friday night, on Saturday morning I took a sock monkey making class with my mom (I'll have to steal a picture from her of us with our monkeys, I don't have one!), and then we swam around all day and hung out with my lil brother, the parents, my sister & cutie nephew, and grandma. Our bellies were full of yummy food the whoooole time (my mom is the best!), and then on Sunday we swam some more and hopped back on the plane!

Fast, but lovely weekend. :) In a month we'll be flying back there again, so it will hold us over til then..lol. I miss everybody so much already!!

Soooo that's what's been happening with me. There are piles of things to do, e-mails to reply to, papers to fill out and send, house things to attend to, but I'm trying my hardest to ignore them this week and just get this lil video done! It's so hard to be distracted and lose a whole day of time, here at home. Espeically when it's this hot!! (I've dubbed the house my sauna, cuz even with the blinds closed and the fan going, it feels like one...Ugh!). More craftiness soon, once I chug through some work. :)

Well, hello. :)

Nothing new creatively to share just yet, so new in the world of me stuff: I got a cute haircut and kind of have bangs now...it's a lil odd. What meant to be a trim got a lil almost-to-short-for-ponytail short. lol. :) Photo soon, hopefully! I'm also jonesing for a tattoo - I was getting a small one every year for a few years there, and I've just realized it's been like 2 1/2 years since my last one! Agh! Trying to convince hubby to get one with me. :)

I'm psyched that the Art School has it's September calender out and that I'll soon be signing up for Bookmaking (Eeek!) and LetterPress 1 (again...I had to cancel my last sign-up for this because of a work extension...). I might also take a small business course over a few weeks in September, cuz I'm craving school!! It's also been like 2 years since I learned something not on the job. Yay!

What else? Oh! I've decided - as part of the whole organize-my-web-self thing and the website building - it makes sense to move my shop address, which is currently www.michellealynn.etsy.com, to a more searchable-on-Etsy address: www.bubblyshnooks.etsy.com. This will be happening on August 5th - more details coming about that as I figure it out! But feel free to add the new shop to your favorites so you can find it! :)

I'm also currently trying to fend off a sore throat still (sometimes - it's been hanging around threatening to come full-on for weeks now!), working out regularly (finally!) and I feel awesome, I've been cooking a lot of healthy food - like Chickpea soup, Veggie Shepherd's Pie, Beef Enchiladas, etc. and have been having fun shopping in the new (to me) organic market thats just blocks away from home. It's so cool to go in there and find new healthy food stuffs!

We finished watching the first season of True Blood last night - the two last episodes, and: happy! Thank goodness there wasn't a crazy cliffhanger, cuz it's already gonna be hard enough waiting for the second season to come out on dvd (no HBO in my house!). Yay! :) Happy, happiness!

Anyhoo - I feel like summer's just starting - just realized the next many weekends are booked full of lovely getaways and camping, starting with a little jet-off to Calgary tonight to visit my parents + family for the weekend - short and sweet, but much-needed. :) I miss them and can't wait to visit them and hang out in the pool for a few days! Yay!
